Staff of the Research & Education Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Cochrane Russia based at the Kazan Federal University led by the Cochrane Russia Director Liliya Eugenevna Ziganshina took part in the 5th Congress of Russian Pharmacologists “Scientific foundations for research and development of new drugs”, and in the All-Russian meeting of Clinical Pharmacologists coupled with international conference "Clinical pharmacology and medicine supply" held on 14 to 18 May in Yaroslavl.

New evidence published in the Cochrane Library shows that human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccines protect against cervical lesions in young women, particularly in those who are vaccinated between the ages of 15 and 26. It also summarizes findings on harms that have been assessed in randomized controlled trials.

Planning is well underway for the March for Science being held on 14 April, 2018.

In accordance with the agreement between the Kazan Medical Journal (KMJ) and the Cochrane Library, starting from the first issue of 2018, the KMJ publishes translations into Russian of Plain Language Summaries of Cochrane systematic reviews. Russian translations have been prepared at Cochrane Russia.

“In the end, this will improve health around the world,” said Maria Emilia Aragon de Leon, a consultant with the Division of Policy and Governance for Health and Well-being, who attended bothfull-day workshops on systematic reviews and qualitative evidence synthesis. She clarified: “Even though we are not necessarily producing evidence in our program, we are using it. These workshops can help any WHO staff member make better use of the evidence to make informed choices about the policies, plans, strategies and interventions we recommend.”

Three Cochrane Reviews have been newly updated to incorporate the latest available evidence on vaccines for the prevention of influenza. These reviews, which focus on the prevention of influenza in healthy adults, healthy children, and in the elderly, form a long-running series by the same author team, and are available in full on the Cochrane Library:
