Cochrane workshop «GRADE methodology: assessing the certainty (quality) of evidence», organized by Cochrane Russia together with Cochrane China, was held as a part of the Second All-Russian Interdisciplinary Congress on Continuing Professional Education of Healthcare Workers «ЗОНТ (UMBRELLA): Health, Education, Science, Technology» (Precongress) at RMANPO on December 12, 2023.
Rector of RMANPO, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Alekseevich Sychev and Senior Officer of US Network & Geographic Groups and Cochrane Central Executive Team Tiffany Duque addressed the participants of the workshop with a welcoming speech. In their greetings, they noted the successful activities of Cochrane Russia at RMANPO and the main directions of development, including the established collaboration with Cochrane China, and wished all participants and speakers a successful and fruitful workshop.
The event was moderated by Rector, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Alekseevich Sychev and Director of Cochrane Russia, Professor Liliya Eugenevna Ziganshina.
The first report was presented by Professor Liliya Eugenevna Ziganshina, she spoke about the basic principles of using the GRADE methodology to assess the certainty (quality) of evidence in Cochrane systematic reviews. Liliya Eugenevna noted that this year the Cochrane Collaboration celebrates its 30th anniversary, and Cochrane Russia already has an 8-year history of development in Russia in total, including two years at RMANPO.
Janne Estill, Adjunct Professor of the School of Basic Medical Sciences (Lanzhou University) presented the report «Use of GRADE methodology in clinical guidelines», in which he showed the basic principles of forming and assessing clinical guidelines using the GRADE methodology, the importance of assessing the certainty of evidence to determine the strength of recommendations, and demonstrated specific examples of the use of GRADE in clinical guidelines.
Professor Yaolong Chen from Lanzhou University (Cochrane China) in the «Creation and development of GRADE centers at the national level: the experience of China» told the exciting and very successful story of the creation of GRADE centers in China, starting in 2007, identified further directions for development in this area and expressed hope for continued development of collaboration with Cochrane Russia at RMANPO.
At the end of the workshop, Liliya Eugenevna Ziganshina and Dmitry Alekseevich Sychev summed up its results of the event.
